THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
This module explores the history of South, Southeast and East Asian architecture as a whole within a systematic treatment of architectural design and construction, building science and technology, garden
design and city planning through three key themes: sustainability, tradition and modernity & globalisation
PROJECT 1
CONTEXTUAL STUDY SKETCH JOURNAL OF A TRADITIONAL STREET
Our task for this assessment was to research the typical street setting were provided to us. We examine the relationship between Asian architecture and its social, cultural, and intellectual setting. Through observation and sketches that provide information for our sketch journal, this study has allowed us to determine the place identity of these traditional streets.
SELF REFLECTION
Through this project, I gained knowledge of the numerous ways to understand the expressions of traditional streets, whether through the physical attributes of the area and architecture or the purely figurative meanings of society and culture. In my situation, I decided on Jalan Tun Hs Lee, which is a famous street in KL. Definition of the physical and non-physical environment is the next phase, and we then submit our findings in sketches and a written report.
I were able to assess the relationship between architecture and its social, cultural, and intellectual setting in the Asian area as well as the specific circumstances that define the distinctive place identity as a result.
INFOGRAPHIC
Our task for this assessment was to develop an infographic about the traditional and vernacular architectural styles that were taught in this module, including traditional Chinese, traditional Indian, vernacular Malay, and Southeast Asian architecture. I've chosen to focus on traditional Chinese architecture for this assignment in order to show that I understand design thinking and how cosmology, history, society, and culture have influenced the creation and development of architecture, building typology, spatial layout conception, structures, and constructions. Through examination, research, design, and organisation of the obtained information, I was able to explain how traditional Chinese architecture historically evolved in response to its native environs.
SELF REFLECTION
In my opinion, doing this assignment has been engaging and enjoyable, and it has improved my infographic communication skills. The resources our tutor provided for creating infographics were quite helpful when it came time to do this assignment, and I am thankful and appreciative of them.
PROJECT 2
POSTER AND SEMINAR-CONTEMPORARY ISSUES AND ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
This is a six-person group project to research and analyse the problems related to current Asian architecture based on the themes of modernity and globalisation. We must do a recorded seminar presentation and present our study throughout using a presentation board that compiles our findings.
SELF REFLECTION
In this project, I could work in groups with my groupmates to discuss and our findings together which gave me a useful reminder of the importance of teamwork in order to promptly and efficiently achieve our targeted results. Because we had to speak and discuss about our research topic in meetings, this project helped me to get better at communicating.
In addition, I want to thank each member of my team for their collaboration, responsibility, and prompt fulfilment of the duties assigned to them, as well as for their individual contributions to the project's success.
