BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS
Tutor: Mr. Azim
This module intends to inform the basic building construction and materials used in the construction of small to medium scale buildings. It focuses on developing an understanding of the principle of the building elements which include the substructure and superstructure and common construction materials such as concrete, masonry, timber, metal, and glass. For each material, this module will describe the manufacturing process, properties, and typical uses of these materials in construction
PROJECT 1
Famous Architect’s Building (Architectural and Structural)
In this project, we must do a case study on a building designed by a well-known architect, and we must name five architectural and two structural construction materials. It is necessary to do a thorough investigation of the theories, ideas, and properties of the selected construction materials in order to finish this project. Two A3-sized pieces of paper must be used to present the results compilation. I have selected Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center as my research building in this project.

SELF REFLECTION
In this project, I have improved my ability to identify different building materials and classify them as architectural or structural elements based on how they are used in the particular structure. In addition, I was able to understand how the qualities, features, and effects of the architectural design affected the decisions made about the materials used. I had also learned how important it is to organize data in a clear and orderly manner in order to minimize visual clutter.
PROJECT 2
Construction Detailing of Building Elements
In this project, groups of 5 students will present their understanding of the construction details of building components using manual drawings and research. In order to better understand and comprehend the close connection between design and technical knowledge, we are required to investigate, apply, document, and explain the detailing of building elements on superstructures as well as the construction process of a building based on the floor plan chosen. A collection of construction drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, detailed drawings, and sketches with the appropriate specifications, symbols, and proportions, were produced by the 5 of us using the resources given after we settled on a floor plan for a timber building.

SELF REFLECTION
Through this project, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the building process and the technical features of a structure. Additionally, I used various line weights, symbols, and comments to represent critical information about our projects in the construction drawings by applying my technical drawing abilities from past semesters.
